Further Information
This post offers an exciting opportunity for a creative, motivated art specialist to join the art team at Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums.

We are seeking a Keeper of Art to manage the collections at the Hatton Gallery and to work with the art team under the direction of the Chief Curator to deliver the art galleries’ exhibition programme. You will be mainly based at the Hatton Gallery but will also work between the Laing Art Gallery and Shipley Art Gallery with a close team of colleagues.

In 2017 the Hatton Gallery on Newcastle University’s campus underwent a £3.8 million refurbishment. Gallery improvements include the conservation of the architectural and historical elements of the building alongside the modernisation of gallery spaces, creation of a dedicated multi - purpose learning space, improved lighting, a new picture store, and reinterpretation of Kurt Schwitters’ iconic Merz Barn Wall.

A degree or equivalent qualification or experience in visual art/history of art and experience of working with collections including documentation, interpretation and exhibition organisation are essential. Experience of managing staff and volunteers is also required.
