Multi Systemic Therapy (MST) is a community based model directed at older children, teenagers and their families. The approach is targeted at those families where the young person is at risk of coming into care or custody due to their own behaviours. MST aims to prevent family breakdown, to reduce offending and to improve educational outcomes.
MST requires Therapists to work intensively with children, young people and their families as well as the other systems around the young person. Caseloads are limited to 4-6 families for each Therapist. You must be able to participate as part of a 24-hour per day, 7 days per week on-call rota. All of the roles are full-time, 37 hours a week, and are worked flexibly to meet the needs of families.
We are looking for practitioners with significant experience of working effectively with young people and families with multiple problems and challenging behaviours. You will be able to evidence considerable success in having engaged hard to reach families. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to remain calm and have the ability to defuse difficult and sometimes volatile situations.
You will ideally have a post-graduate qualification in psychology, social work or counselling or an equivalent professional qualification from a relevant field of child/adolescent or adult/parenting practice. Experience and knowledge in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Family Therapy and/or pragmatic behavioural interventions would be preferred although full training in the MST model will be provided. Therapists receive weekly group supervision from the Manager and consultation from MST Services. Applicants with a related undergraduate degree and significant relevant professional experience will be considered.
Please note, due to the nature of the role, these posts are not open to part time/ job share.
Successful applicants will be expected to attend and successfully complete the MST 5 Day Orientation training starting on 22 September 2014.
