The Asylum Seeker & Refugee Team works to support families and individuals who are placed in Northumberland that have either been granted refugee status or are seeking asylum. The team provide practical and emotional support to vulnerable people to promote sustainable independent living.

Your role will be to engage local communities and services to ensure effective integration of and support for families and individuals who have been granted refugee status or are seeking asylum. You will lead on the development, delivery and regular review of a Community Engagement Plan, engaging local services, communities, refugees and asylum seekers to meet the key outcomes as detailed in the plan. You will facilitate access of asylum seekers and refugees to services within the community, working within a multi agency framework promoting the effective integration of refugees and asylum seekers within the communities they are housed and promoting positive community responses e.g. befriending/donations of clothing and other items. You will adhere to both service and Council policies and procedures regarding working practices and service delivery. This will include Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, Health and Safety, Data Protection/Confidentiality and our Code of Conduct.

You will be educated to NVQ level 3 or equivalent with experience of providing practical support to ensure the successful delivery of projects, events and activities along with experience of working collaboratively and forming partnerships with a wide range of community groups and organisations. You will have evidence of working with families to affect change and have an understanding of Safeguarding, with an active awareness of and active interest in the current issues facing the service. You must be able to present effectively to groups and engage with communities and you will be working in families homes providing practical and emotional support therefore you must be able to work under pressure and work in a highly pressured environment on a daily basis.

This post involves travel throughout the county therefore you must be able to meet the transport requirements.
