Further Information
At Northumberland County Council we are proud of our employees, who are passionate and committed to improving outcomes for our children and young people.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the experienced supportive Disabled Children statutory social work team in Northumberland which provides a service across the whole of the county. The main base is in central Northumberland with options to work from Locality Offices throughout the county.

We currently have two full time social work posts available, with one post to primarily support families in the North of the county and the other in Central and South East but not exclusively so. The plan moving forward is to work with Disabled Children & Young people from the point of diagnosis through to a maximum age of 25 years.

We are looking for experienced social workers with post qualification experience within a social work role, or social workers who have successfully completed the ASYE Programme. The social workers are required to be committed professionals, determined to deliver an excellent service to disabled children and young people.

The work includes the full range of social work support, including taking part in the duty rota, Child Protection, Child in Need, Looked After Children and those receiving overnight short break support either through S17 or S20 (4) and Legal work. Experience of providing social work support to disabled adults would be an advantage but not essential.

You will identify, assess need and actively participate in the formulation of support packages and reviews, to include Education, Health & Care Plans completed by SEND.

You must have a relevant social work qualification, ie DipSw or equivalent, and experience of working with disabled children and young people is preferable.
You bring the enthusiasm and dedication and in return we can provide you with the opportunity to join a progressive and innovative organisation which values its employees and provides opportunities to contribute to an effective multi agency ethos.

We offer:
A competitive salary with a wide range of additional benefits, the opportunity to develop skills and experience across a range of different specialist teams within children’s and adults across rural and urban localities.

Management who are committed to an appropriate caseload.
Regular supervision.
A supportive environment – mentoring.
Learning and career progression opportunities.
A generous remuneration package.
Induction, support and mentoring from day one in post.
