We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic solicitor or barrister to work in the Housing and Litigation Team in Legal Services.

You will be dealing with work generated by the Regulatory Services and Public Protection division which includes amongst other things, matters relating to licensing, environmental issues, trading standards, food safety and public nuisance issues. You will provide timely and quality advice to officers and elected members in respect of often complex and urgent legal issues which may arise therefrom and the drafting of legal documents.

You will be a strong advocate who is comfortable in the magistrates court as the role involves regularly representing the Council in respect of prosecutions and appeals. You will also be expected to advise Committees of the Council in respect of Regulatory matters and may appear before other Tribunals from time to time.

You will need to demonstrate a flexible and innovative approach to work, have excellent organisational skills and be able to carry a substantial workload. Experience of regulatory work and criminal law would be an advantage for this post. Ideally you will have some general knowledge of local government law.
