Build a Future

Newcastle City Council is developing a new fostering service, Build a Future, to provide a flexible and therapeutic approach to working with young people who are placed in residential services a long way from home or who are on the cusp of residential care because of their behaviour as a response to their situation. These are young people who are difficult to engage and who are often in risky and vulnerable situations.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic Team Manager with experience of developing fostering services and of working with difficult to engage young people. The Team Manager will lead a multi-disciplinary team of Psychologist/Therapist, Resource Workers and Social Worker to support and supervise a team of dedicated Foster Carers recruited to the Build a Future team.
The Team Manager will lead by example, undertaking assessments, devising and delivering training, supervising staff and carers, working with education services, police, children’s social workers, IRO’s, health services and those persons important to the child, creating a 24/7 whole team approach to meeting the needs of complex young people to keep them safe and secure in foster placement.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity.

If you would like to speak to someone about the role please contact Christine Garner, Build a Future lead practitioner on 0191 2772430.

Apply online at www.northeastjobs.org.uk.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
