Newcastle City Council is looking to appoint a temporary Historic Environment Officer to work full-time for a period of one year working predominantly within the Planning service, providing built conservation advice on planning applications and development proposals. The post includes involvement in the development and promotion of heritage in the historic city of Newcastle upon Tyne.

The post requires a degree or diploma in a built heritage conservation related discipline and membership of an appropriate professional body, experience of working with the built historic environment and within the planning system including knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and guidance, proficiency in the preparation of reports, with good writing skills and the ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with applicants and developers and engage with elected members and the public.

The post, which is based at Newcastle Civic Centre, is for a period of one year to cover maternity leave and we are looking to have a person in post by mid-June 2018.
