Northumberland County Council is looking to appoint a temporary Archaeologist. This is an exciting opportunity to protect and promote Northumberland’s unique heritage assets. Working within the Conservation Team, you will provide specialist archaeological advice to the Planning Service and other Council services and external organisations on a range of matters, including development proposals, planning applications, utility consultations and Woodland Grant Schemes.

You will have a degree or postgraduate qualification in Archaeology or a related discipline. You should have knowledge, and be able to demonstrate an understanding of, relevant conservation and planning legislation and policy. You should have experience of archaeological excavation, and of producing briefs for assessments, evaluations and mitigation works necessitated by the planning process.

The post involves travel to work at sites and area offices throughout the County, therefore you must be able to meet the transport requirements. This is a 12 month fixed term post.
