The Council’s in-house Legal Services Team seek to recruit an experienced and knowledgeable Information Governance lawyer to join the Corporate and Governance team.

Your main responsibilities will include advising in relation to:
• Data protection, GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
• Subject Access Requests
• Requests under the Freedom of Information Act
• Requests under the Environmental Information Regulations

You will advise clients (both within the council and within local schools) with regard to the above, deal with internal reviews and appeals to the ICO and on occasion the First Tier Tribunal. You will also deal with matters arising out of the GDPR and DPA 2018, for example drafting and checking data sharing agreements, data clauses within contracts, advising with regard to data breaches and advise upon data protection issues in contracts and other corporate activities.

The role may also include assisting with other areas of law covered by the team including education together with general corporate matters such as the standards regime and you will liaise with senior officers and clients as appropriate.

A qualified solicitor or barrister or fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives holding a current practising certificate, you will bring plenty of in-depth knowledge in the area of information governance. With relevant experience in this area, you will advise and communicate with in-house clients and colleagues.

You will have an eye for detail and good organisational skills, which will enable you to carry a substantial workload. Flexible and innovative in your approach, you will help us to positively develop new areas of practice.
