We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to manage a very busy, highly effective and successful environmental enforcement and animal welfare team at Northumberland County Council. As the Council’s Principal Environmental Enforcement Officer the postholder will lead and manage a team that delivers crucial frontline services that help to protect Northumberland’s wonderful natural and built environment.

You shall have a proven track record of managing a successful enforcement team preferably with recent experience in the regulation of the environmental sector. You shall possess excellent leadership and man management skills. You will have highly developed verbal and written communication skills.

You shall ensure the team carries out its duties in line with the Council’s corporate aims and objectives and that the team’s activities are compliant with the requirements of PACE, RIPA, GDPR and other associated legislation.

The post holder is responsible for the management of a range of activities including dog control, the stray dog collection service, investigations of fly tipping and other serious environmental offences. Together with proactive activities including environmental campaigns such as the Council’s successful Green Dog Walkers initiative. The Team through service level agreements also currently delivers a heightened environmental enforcement service to five town and parish councils within Northumberland and the postholder is the lead contact for the management of these partnership arrangements.
