Further Information
Newcastle City Council are looking to recruit Pre-apprentices to work within Highways.
The pre apprenticeship will last between 12 weeks and 1 year, paid at National Minimum Wage, according to age.
Pre apprenticeships allow you as an individual to experience the occupation and placement practices that you would encounter when undertaking an apprenticeship. It also allows the placement staff to assess your suitability for the role. If you then decide this is the occupation you would like to choose as your career path you may be able to apply to move onto the Level of apprenticeship available for that occupation.
We are taking positive action to drive up standards at both a National and Local level. We give priority to the employability and skills needs of young people aged under 25 because they have a higher unemployment rate than over 25’s, particularly 16-18 year olds Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).
We are keen that all sections of the community, including Looked After Children, disadvantaged communities within Newcastle upon Tyne such as those parts of the City with low Index of Multiple Depravation (IMD) scores, have the same opportunities in life as other people. We guarantee an interview to candidates from under- represented groups that meet the essential criteria documented on our Person Specification.
You can apply for these positions online at
