Newcastle City Councils Community Safety Team is seeking to recruit a Prevent Education Officer to support schools and other educational providers within Newcastle to deliver ‘Prevent’ activity to increase young people’s resilience to terrorism.

The Prevent Education Officer is high profile role, you will be responsible for ensuring that Prevent in local educational provision is delivered in accordance with Newcastle City Councils vision and values.

The education sector has a vital role to play in the successful delivery of Prevent objectives. This role will be responsible for supporting schools, colleges and education providers across all key stages within the local area; providing support to deliver Prevent activity in order to increase young people's resilience to terrorism and extremism.

The Prevent Education Officer (PEO) will report to the Prevent Coordinator within the local authority and will be responsible for leading on engagement with schools and other education providers, including Early Years providers and out of school education. The post holder is also expected to have sight on the further education sector where required, and liaise closely with the HE / FE DfE regional Co-ordinator. The post holder will identify vulnerabilities and risk, deliver training and capacity building, and build and maintain a network of contacts within their local area to advance Prevent activity, including the wider local authority, police, Ofsted, Home Office and the Department for Education. The post holder should have prior experience in the education sector, with good political awareness.
You should be prepared to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel for business purposes.
