The Service

You will be based in the Employability Team, part of the wider Learning and Skills Service (LSS). The team currently delivers employability support across Northumberland via the Generation North East Programme, DWP Work and Health Programme, along with a full employability skills curriculum offer. You will work alongside other employability and curriculum programme staff including Employment Coaches, Business Advisers, Customer Service Advisers and Tutors. Across the wider service you will work with other specialist delivery teams supporting local residents to take up learning and training opportunities. The LSS also provides targeted careers guidance for 16-18 year olds who are not in employment, education or training (NEET), looked after children (LAC), those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and those who are receiving support from Adolescent Services. We offer work related learning experiences for school-aged children and business and apprenticeship ambassador programmes, supported internships for young people with Education and Health Care Plans (EHCP) aged 16-24, traineeships for young people aged 16-24 and apprenticeships for 16+, study programmes and adult education for 16+ in second chance, technical and professional education.

The service has a strong and ambitious vision for all customers and learners, that is shared by all staff - This has positively impacted on our provision and strong employment and learning outcomes. We offer an excellent range of provision that has a strong focus on economic outputs and we deliver our services from bases in all major towns across Northumberland, ensuring that we provide an accessible service to all of our residents. We are a Grade 2 Ofsted service with outstanding features and also hold Matrix Accreditation. Equality, diversity, safeguarding, health and wellbeing and Prevent are all promoted and embedded in the service ethos.

The role

This is a fixed term contract until the end of September 2020. Please also note, this project is part-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF). Generation North East is a regional employability programme and Newcastle City Council is the Lead authority. GNE is an innovative and tailored 1:1 employment support programme assisting 18 - 29 year-olds into employment including assessment, barrier removal, job brokerage, in-work support and added value innovative digital services. Currently, the programme operates very successfully in Northumberland achieving a high conversion of supporting young people into work and training and NCC are meeting all contractual key performance indicators. You will supports residents who are the most disengaged and disadvantaged e.g. basic skills needs, care leavers, NEETS, Lone parents etc. We are looking for an individual who will continue to deliver excellent outcomes for Northumberland and therefore you should be able to evidence your ability to meet KPIs and targets. You should possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to engage and support young workless people to enter and sustain employment, training and work experience. On a daily basis you will provide to your customers individual and continuous support with high quality information, advice and guidance and this will include a combination of personal planning, mentoring, coaching and on-going one to ones. Your priority will be to work with customers to build their employability skills, potential and resilience to enable your customers to take up employment opportunities. You should have an eye for detail and an ability to complete accurate and compliant ESF customer paperwork and use appropriate customer databases ensuring all programme quality and compliance measures are adhered to.

We are looking for an individual who has the passion, drive and enthusiasm for making a positive impact in a young persons life, with the following experience as a minimum: Relevant NVQ Level 3 or 4 Information, Advice and Guidance and direct previous experience of a similar role. You should be able to meet the transport requirements of the post as you will work on a co-location basis in several South East and West Northumberland Jobcentre Plus Offices, local stakeholders and LSS premises to ensure that customers have access to employability support. It is therefore essential that you are able to build excellent working relationships and partnerships with internal colleagues and external partners.

A starting salary of £24,313 - Salary range is £24,313 - £26,999)
