Thomas Bewick School are looking for Lunchtime Supervisory Assistants to join the friendly team of staff providing support/care to children and young people during the midday break. Thomas Bewick is a school for children and young people, aged 3 - 19 on the autistic spectrum.

Candidates must have experience of working with, or caring for, children and be able to:

• establish positive relationships with children;
• communicate with children in a way that they can understand and relate to;
• engage and motivate children to join in organised play activities;
• deal with any challenging behaviour in a patient, quiet manner;
• be sensitive to the differing needs of children;
• work effectively as part of a team.

The school is strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to obtain an enhanced Certificate of Disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service and go through a range of other recruitment checks.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.

Posts will be based at either Site 1 on Linhope Road, Site 2 on West Denton Way or at the school’s unit at Cruddas Park Early Years Centre.
Training and support will be provided to the successful applicants.
