The Service
The Northumberland County Council Library Service operates within the Council's Cultural Services.
The scope of the service includes:
Delivery through 30 standalone, integrated and co-located facilities; mobile library services; library services for HMP Northumberland; the Schools Library Service; our digital services including mylibrary.co.uk website.
Of the 30 Libraries, 4 are integrated with Visitor Information, 2 are Community Access Libraries (CAL’s) and 4 are located within Leisure Centres. Most recently, Alnwick Library has joined with Visitor Information within the refurbished Playhouse building.
During 2018/19, there were :
- 607,507 issues (not including digital issues).
- 27,897 digital issues (eBooks, eAudio & eMagazines).
- 9,503 users of in Jan - Mar 2019 with 24,772 sessions visiting 229,074 pages.
- 35,430 School Library Services issues
- 58 active reading groups
- 629 events and special activities
- 54,164 reservations
- 66,681 hours of use of the public access PCs.
You will be joining a team of 5 librarians managed by 2 Senior Librarians and a Service Manager whose roles enable the development and outreach of the Service. This role will support the Operational team delivering frontline services and require close liaison with the Senior Library Assistants and Area Supervisors. Northumberland Libraries are entering an exciting time of change as a public consultation is in progress to help inform the future direction and priorities for the service.
The role
The post is based at Berwick Library with responsibility for developing the service across the north of the County. You will be confident and efficient in all areas of the Library Universal Offers, have strong digital skills and a proven interest and knowledge of books and reading. The ability to converse at ease with customers, stakeholders and partners and use accurate spoken and written English is essential for the post.

Essential requirements: Degree level or equivalent standard of general education.
