The Service
The Corporate Finance team consists of 36 (full time equivalent) posts providing a range of effective, efficient and high-quality professional services. The team is led by the Service Director Finance who reports directly to the Executive Director of Finance (the Council’s Section 151 Officer). The team advises and provides support across all Council services including supporting Members, managers, staff, services, schools and a range of external partners in the delivery of the Council’s objectives.

The role
Northumberland County Council is seeking to recruit a motivated and customer focused individual to join our Corporate Finance Team. This is a newly created post which will report to the Finance Manager and will assist in overseeing the finances of the Council’s wholly owned companies but will also assist the Corporate Finance Team with Council finances and project-related work. The post will work as part of the Corporate Finance team and ensure an efficient and effective service is provided to the required standard. Key functions of the service are to provide assurance to the Council's Section 151 Officer and Shareholder representative and assist the Corporate finance team whose key functions are to prepare the Council’s Medium Term Financial Plan, report progress during the year on delivering the agreed budget, closing the accounts and producing the annual Statement of Accounts. You will possess excellent communication, negotiation and IT skills, and the ability to analyse problems and issues. The ability to manage a diverse workload to deadlines, work to agreed procedures and translate complex information clearly and concisely is essential. Experience of working in a finance role in a local authority or similar organisation would be an advantage as would knowledge of current financial regulations and local government developments.
