We are currently seeking an experienced structural engineer to join our Building Control Team.
You will have a knowledgeable understanding of the structural design of buildings and be skilled in the use of substructure and superstructure UK design codes and Eurocodes.
The role will primarily involve checking and advising the compliance of building regulation applications with Part A of the Building Regulations. You will assess and comment upon structural design details and calculations submitted by others as part of building regulation applications. This may also involve the undertaking of site inspections of structural elements of work during the construction for the same purpose. The nature of construction projects is wide and varied from domestic extensions and alterations to large and complex residential and commercial buildings.
You will provide response, investigating buildings and structures reported to the council as being in a dangerous condition. Using your skills and professional judgment you will decide upon any appropriate follow up course of action utilising the council’s emergency measures or enforcement powers to remove the danger in the interest of public safety.
You will also support the wider work functions undertaken by building control, where structural engineering input is required in advising upon safety at sports grounds, demolitions and the assessment of temporary structures such as stages, tents and scaffolds.
Training and support will be provided to assist you in becoming fully competent in use of regulatory frameworks and procedures under which building control operates, however it is essential that the successful candidate has the necessary structural engineering knowledge and capability to work autonomously.
