The role
Northumberland County Council is looking to appoint a substantive, full time, flexible and adaptable Consultant in Public Health to join its forward thinking team. If successful, the applicant will have the opportunity to lead on a variety of areas which could include health protection, the wider determinants of health, children and young people and mental health and a variety of community-based health improvement programmes. Responsibilities will also include playing a central role in our response to COVID-19 but we’ll always try to design your job to suit your interests and development needs.
Northumberland is the most beautiful county in which to live and work but despite its numerous attractions, as England’s most sparsely populated and northern county, we have some specific public health challenges. These include a disproportionately ageing population and the often forgotten socioeconomic impact of rurality along with an urban south east corner which continues to face the difficulties consistent with the legacy of former coalfield areas. The Council has a reputation for innovation and we have a longstanding culture of close joint working and integration with our NHS colleagues which is the envy of other areas. We are also committed to developing a Health in All Policies approach within the council, building on the excellent working relationships we have as a team with other areas of the organisation.
With this in mind, we are looking for a Consultant with excellent leadership and strong technical skills who has a proven track record of developing and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders across the public and VCSE sectors and with communities. The successful applicant should be committed to using community centred approaches to improve health and wellbeing. The post-holder must be on the UK Voluntary Register for Public Health Specialists/GMC/GDC Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.
We are offering:
A salary of £70,355 - £78,796
Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (or other pension scheme)
A wide range of staff benefits including a competitive annual leave provision
Flexible working arrangements
Please note that successful applicants must be able to attend an interview/assessment centre on Friday 21 May 2021
