The Service
The post involves working within the small but specialised Environmental Protection Team, as part of the Council’s Housing and Public Protection Service. This team deals with air Quality, Land contamination, Industrial processes, Development control and Private water supplies.
The role
An opportunity has arisen for the post of a suitably qualified Environmental Protection Officer to become part of the Council’s Housing & Public Protection Service.
As part of Public Protection’s Environmental Protection Team, you will inspect Local Authority Permitted sites, respond to Planning consultations, implement the Contaminated Land Strategy, support residents on Private Water Supplies through assessment and improvement interventions, monitor Air Quality across the district, respond to complaints, service requests and enquiries, taking necessary enforcement action to improve standards and protect public health.
You will need experience in the Environmental Protection specialism and relevant experience in a regulatory role, be an excellent team player and possess competency in organising and dealing with complex routine and proactive casework.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including IT skills are essential.
The successful candidate will possess a broad knowledge of Environmental Health to Degree or an equivalent level technical qualification.
Applicants with a relevant qualification in Environmental Health, must have a certificate of registration with EHORB.
As this post involves travel throughout the County you must be able to meet the transport requirements, having a full clean driving licence.
Applicants will be subject to a DBS check.
Post Covid, the post will be based in Cramlington but our offices in Hexham and Alnwick can be used.
The post holder will report to our Senior Environmental Health Officer within the EP Team on a day to day basis.
On the Job training and specialist courses and accreditation will be available to the successful candidate.
