Further Information
Following a review and investment in Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities (SEND) provision within Newcastle City Council an exciting opportunity has arisen. We are looking to recruit a highly skilled and experienced manager and SEND leader. We are looking for someone who is committed to keeping the needs of children and young people with SEN/D at the forefront of decision making. The successful candidate will be committed to working in partnership with parents and carers of children and young people to ensure that they feel fully supported and SEN/D needs are identified and met.

The SAR service sits within the wider SEND service as a key statutory player in the provision of excellent services to children and young people with SEND.

You will manage a busy, vibrant and exciting service, working closely with the Head of Service and senior practitioners to support the dedicated, and experienced caseworker team. You will also oversee the preparation for adulthood agenda from 0-25 years, providing strategic leadership, clear direction of travel and the provision of the support and training required to achieve our SEND strategic priorities.

You will be dedicated to continuous improvement, identifying and driving forward change for the benefit of children and young people with SEND in Newcastle.

You will work closely with colleagues across the wider SEND service, including the placement and transport team, educational psychology team, specialist teachers, SEND early years, as well as the sensory and outreach services. You will be a key part of a cohesive team to improve and streamline access to SEND services and support. You will work effectively and closely with schools and educational settings, health and social care services, establishing and nurturing effective relationships which will in itself achieve excellent outcomes for our children, young people and their families.

Newcastle City Council offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant city with proactive and committed services who have a genuine focus and commitment to support positive outcomes for the residents of Newcastle.

As an employee of NCC, you will have access to a generous flexible working scheme, have the ability to work from home as appropriate, as well as accessing annual leave and the Local Government Pension Scheme. As part of the SEND service you will join a positive, supportive and committed service, and will be a valued member where ideas and suggestions to continuously improve are shared and welcomed as part of a continual commitment to improvement.
