Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums (TWAM) is a major regional museum, art gallery and archives service managing a collection of nine museums and galleries across Tyneside and the Archives for Tyne and Wear.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join this award winning service; we are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and dedicated Customer Service Assistants to work as part of our Front of House team. Successful applicants will deliver a high standard of customer service across our venues. Although you will be attached to one particular venue/s you may be required to work at any of our locations, as and when required. Successful candidates will work to a rota which will include regular rostered weekends. Average hours for the post at Segedunum vary throughout the season and the job holder at the Art Galleries will be required to work across our three galleries, the Hatton, Shipley and the Laing.

Post holders will be expected to undertake a range of activities associated with the general operation of TWAM’s museums and galleries, acting as the first point of contact for visitors, answering enquires and providing information and assistance on the service and activities within the venue. Post holders will also explain exhibits and displays, demonstrate interactive exhibits and may undertake group guided tours, as well as actively promoting retail and fundraising activities to encourage visitor spend. Operating a till, handling and reconciling payments and stock control in accordance with financial procedures will also be part of the role, as will assisting with the moving and handling of collections and exhibits and the installation of exhibitions and displays.

Applicants will have numeracy, literacy and basic IT skill as well as experience in a visitor-facing role and commitment to engaging with visitors.
