Further Information
The KEEP project engages with young people who are making the transition from Care or who may be involved with the Youth Justice System, or are just not ready to fully engage with full-time education and provides them with a bridge to getting back into more structured learning. Many of the learners have lost their confidence and may require a comprehensive range of support to enable them to come back into education.
Newcastle City Learning is seeking to recruit a full-time tutor, who is passionate about working with disadvantaged learners, helping them to make the transition back into learning after a protracted absence. An ability to supervise practical projects would be an advantage, but is not essential, as learners will be engaged in developing some basic construction skills and/or gardening duties. Applicants should have experience of working with learners who have social, emotional, behavioural, and poor mental health issues. Getting young learners back on track and helping them back into education, however, can be a very rewarding role. If you are interested in making a real difference in young people’s lives, then we would welcome your interest in this role.
We require someone who is confident, proactive and adaptable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role. You will need to be flexible as you will be required to work across a number of locations.
Use of own vehicle, current valid driving licence, or access to mobility transport and a willingness to travel are an advantage for this role.
Candidates should hold relevant teacher training qualifications, or be willing to undertake relevant professional development in this respect.

This post is fixed term for 2 years.

As this post involves working with children, vulnerable adults or dealing with sensitive information, written references will be taken up and made available to interviewers before the final selection stage; even if you indicate otherwise.
We are strongly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and a range of other recruitment checks.
