This is an exciting time to join Newcastle City Council and be part of delivering a first-class service as we continue to implement an ambitious and innovative programme that will reshape Social Work for those Adults with a Learning Disability and/or Autism. Building upon our strong track record of delivering a high-quality service in Newcastle, you will be actively involved in continuing to shape our approach to social work. In Adult Services we value social work, managers up to director level are all social work qualified and there is an emphasis on achieving the best outcomes for the people who use our services.

You must be dynamic, committed to providing an excellent social work service and bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to the challenge of working with adults who have a learning disability and/or autism, their families and carers. You must be an enthusiastic team player who is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for adults. Candidates will be required to have the determination, commitment and social work value base to create positive outcomes for adults in the City.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in Adult Social Care and have relevant skills and experience across a range of areas, such as experience of Court of Protection work, hospital discharge, assessment and support planning, safeguarding adults work and working with partner agencies as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will be self-motivating and will be able to prioritise and complete work to a high standard, often within tight timescales. You should also have knowledge of statutory requirements and relevant legislation.
We recognise the demands of the role and the need to support staff; we offer regular one-to-ones with a team manager, small group supervision sessions and regular team meetings as well as learning and development opportunities relevant to the role. You should hold a relevant Social Work qualification such as the Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or CSS and be registered with the HCPC.

This position is fixed term until the end of August 2021
