Role of Head of Internal Audit & Risk Management (Chief Audit Executive)
Salary £70,355 - £78,796  per annum, Permanent, Full Time, 37 hours per week

Do you want a challenging and rewarding career with real opportunities to change the lives of people in Northumberland, if you are dynamic, dedicated and enthusiastic then we want to hear from you.

Who is NCC?
World renowned as a visitor destination, Northumberland is also the ideal location to strike a perfect work/life balance. What better way of enjoying the picturesque scenery and stunning coastline than to sample it on an everyday basis?

Our Vision is: “To make Northumberland a county which you regard as a great place to live, and in which you can access the things you enjoy, whilst having the opportunity to learn and thrive”

We are looking for a successful and highly motivated assurance professional who can lead and deliver excellent Internal Audit and Risk Management services to the County Council, its group entities and a small number of external clients.

You will discharge the role of Chief Audit Executive for the County Council under the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards.  The County Council is a large and complex unitary Authority with a gross revenue budget exceeding £800m per annum.  You will therefore have proven experience of working with senior executives in a supportive and constructive manner, making a real difference to their services: we aim to deliver an assurance function that is truly valued.  As elected and co-opted members are an equally important stakeholder group, experience of delivering assurance services within local government as a sector would be an advantage.

Although you will be well supported, you will have the freedom to operate independently and innovatively, reflecting the senior nature of the role and the objectivity and autonomy required to fulfil this effectively.  The Internal Audit and Risk Management Service already operates very effectively but aims to continually improve.  We are searching for a skilled, credible, confident and focussed individual who will bring enthusiasm and pragmatic solutions to the County Council as we strive to deliver first class services to the community of Northumberland.

We expect you to be professionally qualified with either the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors or one of the CCAB institutes, and able to demonstrate a suitable depth of knowledge and proven experience of internal audit and risk management service delivery at a senior management level.  You will also have a good understanding of local government and will have the skills to manage and motivate the Internal Audit and Risk Management team to deliver consistently high levels of service.

Full details can be found in the attached job description and person specification

We have some outstanding benefits to offer you, including:
- A competitive salary (£70,355 - £78,796)
- 25 days annual leave plus public and bank holidays (rising to 30 after 5 years of service)(pro-rata for part-time employees)
- Automatic enrolment into the Local Government Pension Scheme
- Home/remote working through Teams
- Training, development and professional networking opportunities
