This salary is 22.2 hours per week. The salary for this post is £19,746 - 22,153 (full time salary is £32,910 - 36,922)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Short Term Support Service based in the West of Northumberland on a permanent contract for 22.5hours/week. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic person to join a busy and dynamic community team, working to deliver rehabilitation programs to clients predominantly within their own homes. 

The Short Term Support Service comprises of therapists and care staff who offer assessment, rehabilitation and re-enablement to support clients who may have experienced a short-term illness or a temporary deterioration in an existing condition. 

The successful candidate will hold a caseload of clients with varying conditions providing Occupational Therapy Assessment and Rehabilitation, working alongside NHS Physiotherapists and support staff to promote independence and achievement of the clients own goals. 



The post-holder will work as an Occupational Therapist to provide an Assessment and  Rehabilitation service for adults with orthopaedic conditions as well as referrals for older people with age related conditions, Falls and stroke and neurological conditions. 

Therapy will occur in a community setting e.g. clients homes, Residential/Nursing homes. Less frequently some therapy activities may/ will occur in the hospital setting and other community settings for example Leisure/Community Centre for group work. 

Your clinical expertise will be used flexibly where it is required and as discussed by your line manager. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. 



Detailed job description and main responsibilities 

To provide a seamless service of community O.T. working across both primary and secondary healthcare as part of the multi-disciplinary/multi-agency team for adult rehabilitation. 

To ensure that referrals to the specialised service area of orthopaedics, older people, stroke and neuro are prioritised and service delivery is made efficiently within resource constraints. 

To manage a caseload of clients (often with highly complex needs), using evidence based clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. 

To provide leadership and clinical education for junior and support staff, through supervision. 

To carry out appraisals with junior and support staff, as delegated by Line Manager. 

To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects through specialist interest and steering group. 

To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Occupational Therapy service. 

To regularly supervise undergraduate Occupational Therapy students on practice placement and participate in placement experience of other professionals. 

To take a lead in the decision making process for discharge planning through assessment and the analysis of treatment outcomes. 

To undertake complex assessments, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic interventions. 

To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
