The role:

The Joint Equipment Loans Service (JELS) are part of the Adults Social Care service. The team are responsible for the purchase, storage and distribution of a huge variety of equipment. We deliver more than 58,000 pieces of community equipment to clients across the whole of Northumberland each year. The equipment we provide is loaned and there is no charge for the use of this service.



The main purpose of the service is to provide a large range of equipment to allow people to live as independently as possible in their own home and prevent unnecessary admission to hospital and to facilitate and support discharge to their preferred place of residence/care.

Equipment can assist people with the tasks of daily life and make it easier to provide care for them and protect them from accidents. It can also help people to move back home from hospital or avoid them having to be admitted to hospital by promoting independence and self-care.

JELS have an Admin team of 10 and a Warehouse team of 18 staff. We deliver approximately 1000 items per week and collect 750 items, which are cleaned, serviced and returned into stock.

Key responsibilities, what we’re looking for, level of responsibility

The primary role of a JELS Warehouse Driver is to carry out various activities within our warehouse and when required to drive a van and collect, load/unload and transport equipment to and from Client’s homes, residential homes and hospitals. Also ensuring that rehabilitation equipment is received, cleaned and issued effectively and efficiently.

You will be required to perform normal warehouse duties which includes, putting stock away, receiving deliveries of equipment from Suppliers, following pick lists to pull out stock for van delivery runs and loading and unloading vans, updating paperwork and computer systems.

You will also be required to drive long wheeled based Luton box vans to deliver community equipment into client’s homes, and into satellite stores held at various sites around the county. Individual pieces of equipment can weigh up to 25Kgs. Similar vehicles are also used for the collection of used equipment from the same homes and premises. You will therefore need a current clean driving licence.

You will be required to clean, refurbish and provide some basic mechanical/electrical servicing to community rehabilitation equipment that has been collected and returned to the JELS stores.?

This involves following infection control procedures, cleaning regimens, and manufacturers servicing schemes.? Appropriate training and PPE equipment and tools are all provided.?

Band 4 salary is £20,092 - 21,748. Contract is 18 months fixed term. 37 hours/week.
