The Service

The Neighbourhood services team operates throughout Northumberland and is responsible for maintaining local areas and providing local services. The successful apprentices will work alongside experienced staff undertaking a range of repair and maintenance activities.


The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Neighbourhood Services Team for a Level 2 Horticulture Apprentice. Although applicants do not need to have any prior experience, they must be willing to undertake duties to gain experience in Horticulture, supported with offsite training. Roles in Horticulture can be of a physical nature and may involve lifting and moving of equipment. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. The Horticulture team operates strictly within the requirements of health and safety legislation.

This opportunity provides experience to work whilst you learn and develop key skills that will be valuable throughout your career. Your responsibilities as a Horticulture Apprentice may include:

Assisting with grounds work, bedding plant production, making hanging baskets and plant bedding displays

Assist with shrub bed maintenance.

Assist with grass cutting and hedge cutting.


Although applicants do not need to have any prior experience, they must be willing to undertake duties and training to gain experience in Level 2 Horticulture or landscape operative apprenticeship, all responsibilities will be supported with offsite apprenticeship training.

They help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in your chosen industry. Getting into employment earlier means there's lots of potential for you to progress in your career quickly. Essential requirements:
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/c or equivalent)
- Must be willing to attend off site/ Virtual apprenticeship training with Education Partnership North East
