The apprenticeship
We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a group of apprentices a two-year training programme to work across a variety of our residential and care provisions for our most vulnerable children in Northumberland. You will join our Childrens services, residential care team and receive a thorough induction, training and support to enable you to learn the skills and knowledge needed for the role. Four days per week you will be supported at on the job by your colleagues and line manager. One day per week is allocated to specialist off the job apprenticeship training to study modules such as:

You will be part of a creative, enthusiastic and dynamic team. We will provide you with excellent support throughout your training programme together with genuine opportunities for your personal and professional development. You will work across all our homes giving you an understanding of our daytime, evening provision and service that we provide to young people.

The programme of study you will undertake will begin with a Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People Residential Worker and then progress onto the Level Apprenticeship Pathway – Children, Young People & Families Practitioner – Practitioner in Children’s Residential Care.

You must hold Maths and English functional skills Level 2 or higher to be accepted on to this programme.

You must be over the age of 21 to be able to apply for this role.

Main purpose of the job:
You will undertake learning one day per week as part of your working hours. What you learn you will then be able to demonstrate and implement back in to the work environment.

Key duties will include:
-Support the staff team in the day-to-day care of the young people.
-Learn to safeguard the young people and yourself.
-Engage the young people in social and educational activities.
-Support the young people to develop positive relationships both in the home and socially.
-Support the young people by helping them develop independence skills.
-Follow and add to the young person’s care plan.
-Transport the young people to and from education or social activities.
-Communicate with other professionals.
-Ensure the young people are safe by following statutory and mandatory guidelines
-Attend the weekly/monthly team meetings to share and agree information.
-Support the staff team in recording information.
