You will be part of a team with responsibility for the maintenance, security and health & safety of our grounds, buildings, facilities and equipment.

From 1 April 2022, the National Minimum Wage is between £4.81 and £9.50 an hour, depending on the candidate's age.

Working week:
An agreed rota will be established but hours will fall between 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday

What will the apprentice be doing?
• To work under instruction/guidance of the Facilities Manager and the other site staff to provide a caretaking service to the central team and also support the 39 schools in the trust.
• Under supervison, to maintain school premises in relation to lighting, heating and cleaning including maintenance and operation of plant, porterage and handy person duties and such other duties which may arise from the use of the premises.
• To uphold and promote good health and safety practice across school at all times.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Your training provider will support you during the duration of your program in order that you achieve your End Point Assessment, which is assessed by the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM). Your training providor will ensure your learning, skills and behaviours are in place so you can satisfy your end point assessment in a timely fashion and your career within facilities management can be facilitated and progressed onto the next step. You will have at least monthly visits, which are currently held online; remotely.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
At the end of the apprenticeship this fixed term post will end, however this is a genuine opportunity to experience work as a facilities operative and we anticipate if successful, it will enable an individual to be employed as a facilities operative in one of our 39 schools. This experience will provide training and experience that the individual can then use in any future role associated with facilities support.

You will work for the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust but will support the 39 schools within the trust. You will be based at one of the secondary schools in either Newcastle, Bedlington or North Tyneside but will also be given opportunities to experience primary schools.
