Further Information
Newcastle is a fantastic city, with a proud history, passionate people, and diverse communities. It is home to some of the best children’s healthcare in the UK, two internationally renowned universities, award winning cultural venues, elite sports institutions and outstanding schools and colleges, beautiful green parks, and iconic landmarks. However, the COVID pandemic has exacerbated social, health and economic challenges for many in our neighbourhoods, with the cost-of-living crisis hot on its heels. As part of Newcastle City Council’s commitment to tackling these challenges we are listening closely to children and young people who use our services, and who grow up in our city.
In July 2022 we launched Evry – a new plan responding to mass consultation with under25s in Newcastle, bringing together a broad alliance of partners in a bold and common purpose to make Newcastle a place where all under 25s can live, thrive and be heard. Alongside this we have been developing our participation opportunities for Children in Care and Care Leavers, and - supported through £3.1m funding from DfE’s Strengthening Families Protecting Children Programme (SFPC) - we have adopted a relational approach to our practice with babies, children and families.
We want to put children and young people’s voices at the heart of all these developments, enabling them to be part of decisions effecting their everyday lives and to influence strategy and services in the City. A dedicated team of Voice and Influence Officers play a key role in shaping, delivering, and learning from our ongoing dialogue with babies, children and young people.
We are now looking to recruit a new Voice and Influence Officer to join our team, on a initial 18month fixed term contract. They will be based in the Children, Education and Skills Strategy and Commissioning Unit, and reporting to the Child Friendly Newcastle Lead.
These are dynamic change-making roles. You will be working closely with colleagues inside and outside the Council, engaging directly with children and young people, and helping to shape the future of our City.
Are you are committed to working with children, young people and families to create a Newcastle where everyone under25 can be heard and has the best possible life chances? Then we would like to hear from you.
To find out more about the role or arrange an informal discussion please email ben.dickenson@newcastle.gov.uk. Or come to the Newcastle City Council jobs fair on 29th September (11am-2pm, Newcastle Civic Centre) to meet the team.
We offer a comprehensive range of training, including a programme of restorative and relational practice training and professional opportunities that evolves and develops to meet the needs of our workforce at all stages of their career.
In addition, you will receive:
• A dedicated induction
• Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually
• A range of flexible working options
• A generous Flexi Scheme
• Access to Mindfulness sessions and other wellbeing initiatives
• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme
• Access to a home electronics scheme and vehicle leasing scheme.
