Newcastle City Council is seeking to appoint a Public Health Intelligence Specialist to work within the Public Health team. You will have a key role in developing the Public Health Intelligence function of Newcastle City Council and in driving our understanding of inequalities within our city.

The role will seek to maximise the impact of public health action to improve health and reduce health inequalities through the provision of high-quality public health intelligence advice and support. It will take a leadership role on the development Newcastle’s Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and look at how we can use digital solutions to support the work of the Public Health team and wider partner.

The role will sit with the Public Health team and report to the Public Health Portfolio lead for Epidemiology and Intelligence and will work with a team of Public Health Analysts, as well as working in partnership with other intelligence staff in Newcastle City Council and our partners.

Applications are sought from individuals with a postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience in a public health intelligence, epidemiology, research, or related field and have highly developed analytical skills. Knowledge and experience of working with healthcare and demographic data sources and statistical techniques relevant to the analysis and interpretation of healthcare data sets is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment. The role will be challenging and varied and you will need to be flexible, able to work autonomously, and prioritise workload to meet conflicting deadline.
