Further Information
As we approach our third year of embedding a relational and restorative practice culture across our service, we are looking for motivated, child-centred social workers to join our skilled and passionate workforce. If you want to join a service which is rated good in all areas, and is committed to working with families, rather than doing to them, then Newcastle is the place for you.

The Roles:

We are looking for Social Workers, from those wishing to undertake their ASYE, to those with more experience, in various teams across our service. Please see the attached documents for more details and indicate on your applications which posts you would like to be considered for. We are currently looking to recruit to the following teams:

The Initial Response Service undertakes assessments when children are first referred to Children’s Social Care, as well as providing some short-term support to children in need.

The Long-Term Social Work Service provides support to children and their families when a longer-term plan is required, including those subject to Child Protection Plans.

The Children in Care and Care Leavers Service provide support to children and young people in our care, and those moving on to independence from our care.

The Children with Disabilities Team work with children and young people where a disability has a profound impact on them, providing assessment, support and services to ensure they are safe and reach their potential.

The Pre-Birth Team will support parents from the earliest opportunity so they can safely care for their child from birth. This is an exciting new team which is currently being developed. You must be post ASYE to apply for this team.

Who we are looking for?

We are passionate about achieving the best outcomes for the children in our city, and you should be too. We are looking for Social Workers who are committed to working with children, young people, and their families in a relational and restorative way.

We are lucky enough to have most of our teams based in one office, meaning that working relationships are strong and we pride ourselves on our ability to work together in the best interests of children and families. So, we are looking for team players who want to work in an environment that prioritises relationships and champions social work values.

Why Newcastle Children’s Social Care?

In February 2022 Newcastle Children’s Social Care was rated as GOOD across all areas by Ofsted.

“Social workers are positive about working for Newcastle. They feel well supported through their induction and speak of supportive and available managers.”

We are implementing a relational and restorative approach across our service and city to transform how we work with children, families and partners, focusing on strengths and values.

We offer a comprehensive range of training and professional opportunities. Social workers in their ASYE year will be part of our ASYE Hub which provides a targeted development programme as you begin your career with dedicated support and a tailored ASYE programme.

“As an AYSE I felt so supported by Newcastle, the AYSE programme is tailored to help newly qualified social workers move from the role of student to social worker in a way which allows them to grow and develop as a practitioner in a safe and supportive environment” (ASYE Social Worker 2021).

You can hear more about what it is like to work at Newcastle and read our working principles, as well as hear first-hand from our social workers at www.newcastle.gov.uk/csc.

Why we think there’s nowhere better:

• A dedicated 5-day induction
• Generous annual leave in addition to Bank Holidays with the ability to buy additional leave annually
• A range of flexible working options
• A generous Flexi Scheme
• Employee Assistance Programme offering confidential advice and support
• Access to a generous, defined benefit pension scheme
