As we approach our third year of embedding a relational and restorative practice culture across our service, we are looking for motivated, child-centred social workers to join our skilled and passionate workforce. If you want to join a service which is rated good in all areas, and is committed to working with families, rather than doing to them, then Newcastle is the place for you.

The Role

We are looking for a Team Manager to join our Children with Disabilities Team.
The Children with Disabilities Team is a specialist social work team working with children and young people with disabilities and their families. The team are well-established and experienced with their work covering the full range of statutory duties in the delivery of the service. It is committed to the personalisation agenda and the SEND reforms.

The team provides assessment, support and services to ensure that the children and young people they work with are safe and reach their potential. They provide support to children and their families as children in need, support where there are safeguarding concerns and work with children and young people in our care.

Please see the attached documents for more details.

Who we are looking for?

We are passionate about achieving the best outcomes for the children in our city, and you should be too. We are looking for a Team Manager who is committed to working with children, young people, and their families in a relational and restorative way, to be based in the Children with Disabilities Team.

You will lead by example and role model best practice, providing inspirational leadership which motivates people to embrace change, improve practice and performance which results in better outcomes for children and young people.

We are lucky enough to have most of our Children’s Social Care teams based in one office, meaning that working relationships are strong and we pride ourselves on our ability to work together in the best interests of children and families. So, we are looking for team players who want to work in an environment that prioritises relationships and champions social work values.

Why Newcastle Children’s Social Care?

In February 2022 Newcastle Children’s Social Care was rated as GOOD across all areas by Ofsted.

“Social workers are positive about working for Newcastle. They feel well supported through their induction and speak of supportive and available managers.”

We are implementing a relational and restorative approach across our service and city to transform how we work with children, families and partners, focusing on strengths and values.

We offer a comprehensive range of training and professional opportunities.
“As an AYSE I felt so supported by Newcastle, the AYSE programme is tailored to help newly qualified social workers move from the role of student to social worker in a way which allows them to grow and develop as a practitioner in a safe and supportive environment” (ASYE Social Worker 2021).

You can hear more about what it is like to work at Newcastle and read our working principles, as well as hear first-hand from our social workers at www.newcastle.gov.uk/csc.
