Fixed Term to August 2024

The Governors of Archbishop Runcie Church of England VA First School wish to appoint two support assistants ideally from Monday 6th February (or sooner if possible).

This is an opportunity to support children 1:1 in the classroom, working closely with parents, class teachers, the SENCo and the Headteacher to provide our children with the highest possible quality of education.

The ideal candidate will be someone with experience working in a similar role, especially children who are neurodiverse (e.g., autism, ADHD) and/or children who have experienced trauma. Experience of de-escalation strategies and positive handling would be a benefit. This role may also involve working with children who have medical needs including those who use percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) feeding tubes. Bespoke CPD can be put into place to support the successful candidate with any relevant gaps.

We are a welcoming Church of England school with a dynamic, passionate and hardworking staff team. We have high expectations of ourselves and the children. Parents are highly supportive of the school.

This role will be an opportunity to play a full part in the continued development of our vision for all our children to become confident, secure, caring individuals who flourish through our ambitious and creative curriculum. The role is fixed term until the end of summer 2024 and each post will be attached to a specific child – if the children leave school, 28 days’ notice will be given.

This is post is suitable for experienced Teaching Assistants and/or someone with a good level of qualification. The postholder will be expected to be flexible and work additional hours to meet the needs of the school where required.

We are looking for ambitious and meticulous team members who will go the extra mile for the benefit of the school community. Being a self-starter, able to use own initiative, is an essential part of the role, particularly in terms of getting to know the child the successful candidate will work with and identifying any relevant CPD that the staff member needs.

The successful candidates will set high standards for themselves, the school and our children. They will have a positive outlook, be resilient under pressure, and will be excited at the prospect of working as part of a small team where everyone “mucks in”.

The successful candidates will:
* have experience of supporting learning in schools
* have a passion for working with children with additional needs, with good knowledge of best practice
* have experience of 1:1 support
* work positively with parents and families and be willing to participate in all aspects of school life, especially with the families of relevant children
* have high expectations of children's achievements and behaviour
* be flexible and work collaboratively and successfully as team members
* support children’s medical needs within school
* support the vision and Christian ethos of the school

Application packs can be downloaded from the school website (https://archbishop-runcie.eschools.co.uk/website). Completed applications should be accompanied by a covering letter and sent electronically FAO Mrs Massey, Headteacher, via email (admin@archbishop.newcastle.sch.uk). CVs will not be accepted.

Archbishop Runcie CE (VA) First School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; we expect all staff and volunteers to share this firm commitment. As such, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be undertaken alongside other relevant employment checks deemed appropriate.

Closing Date: Monday 9th January 2023.

Longlisted candidates will be asked to submit a short recorded task. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to undertake a range of tasks and a formal interview on Friday 13th January 2023.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age. We look forward to receiving your applications.
