Required as soon as possible, Newcastle SEND Sensory Service is seeking to appoint a Deaf Support Worker to join an enthusiastic team who support the achievements of deaf children and young people, their families, early years settings and schools across the city.

The successful candidate will be appointed to a city-wide Service. The role will initially be based at Benton Park Primary school. Benton Park Primary School is the host school for one of our Hearing Impairment Additionally Resourced Provisions (HIARP’s). The role will involve working with our deaf children and young people in the mainstream school as well as in the HIARP.

It is a general occupational requirement that the post holder is deaf and has BSL as their first language.

The successful candidate will:

• have an understanding of and commitment to inclusive education and an ability to work effectively as part of a team
• have experience of supporting deaf children and young people with a range of special educational needs and an understanding of barriers to learning.
• be a positive role model for deaf children & young people.
• be able to work effectively with parents, other colleagues and relevant professionals.
• be an enthusiastic, well-motivated and adaptable individual with good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
