South Tyneside Council Waste Services is based in South Shields, Tyne and Wear. The Service is undergoing transformation to deliver an efficient and effective Waste Service for the Borough. You will be part of a new team who will look at delivering improvements to the Service.

You will be educated to A level standard with GCSE’s graded A-C or 5-9 in Maths and English and will have a proven track record of analysing data for the purposes of continuous improvement. You will be an expert in creating and using records and databases, and have significant experience in using D&ICT systems, spreadsheets, reporting tools and digital information to help the service drive forward change and improvement by producing reports and recommendations.

Ideally you will have experience of using in-cab technology and routing software within a Waste environment. Although training can be given you should be able to demonstrate your ability to work with complex software packages. You will be responsible for delivering a high quality, customer focussed service. You will:
• Regularly monitor all resources to identify opportunities to increase productivity and service standards.
• Analyse data and produce accurate reports to enhance performance across the service.
• Produce reports in relation to contamination levels such as which areas in the Borough would benefit from education, which crews may benefit from retraining etc.
• Use information produced to highlight where contamination improvements need to be targeted.
• Produce leaflets and promotional material in order to target areas within the Borough to improve recycling and decrease contamination.
• Monitor activity for the Recycling Village in order to recommend solutions for service improvements and efficiencies.
• Help implement, manage and use D&ICT systems such as incab solutions, Routesmart and other relevant systems to support effective and efficient service delivery and optimise refuse route scheduling.
• Maintain the service’s process maps, updating and creating maps as and when necessary.
• Use the digital screens based in the depot to highlight important improvements to crews as well as maintain good practice such as health and safety practices.
• Carry out crew audits regarding debrief information such as weights, tipping off times, and fuelling up, ensuring that any discrepancies are fed back to the Waste Collection Service Leaders.
