Newcastle Bridges School
Drayton Road
Newcastle upon Tyne
NE3 3RU

Due to the ongoing expansion of the School and Trust we are seeking to appoint, as soon as possible, a highly motivated, inspirational member of staff to assist our SENDCo in supporting young people with SEN across the school. The number of young people with EHCPs in the school has increased dramatically in recent times and the successful candidate will assist in all aspects of the role and deputise for the SENDCo as required.

We seek a committed professional that is able to contribute to supporting some of the most vulnerable young people within the city and surrounding areas, striving to make a difference to their lives.

Newcastle Bridges School provides excellent educational opportunities to pupils whose education has been interrupted by mental or physical ill-health or school phobia. We seek to support each pupil’s access to a full-time, broad and balanced education appropriate to their potential and their educational needs and encourage reintegration into mainstream whenever relevant. Newcastle Bridges School was judged by Ofsted to be ‘outstanding’ (May 2022).

The school is multi-site, and includes providing education into five NHS provisions.
The successful candidate will have a particular interest in, and experience of, working with students with SEN either in a primary or secondary setting. They will have knowledge of the 2015 SEN Code of Practice and the purpose of and procedures surrounding EHCPs. They will also have excellent IT skills in order to contribute to SEN report writing and EHCP paperwork. The successful candidate will be required to travel to our sites across the school and venues within the local area. They will work closely with outside agencies and various professionals and with staff and pupils across the school. The successful candidate will therefore have effective communication skills and will be able to contribute to and, where necessary, chair meetings. They will be highly organised and be able to manage a range of practical, administrative and learning tasks using their initiative and working to strict deadlines. The role will also involve working directly with young people with SEN; assessing their needs, delivering interventions and making recommendations to staff and outside agencies about suitable strategies, interventions and provision for individuals.

The Assistant SENDCo will be required to teach in our Secondary Kenton Provision. Please state your curriculum strengths on your application

The Trust offers the successful candidate:
• A friendly and supportive team of staff who are willing to share expertise and learn from one another
• A supportive Trust, Trustees and Governors
• Further professional development appropriate to the role

We would like to hear from those candidates who feel that they can demonstrate the characteristics and skills we are looking for and hold the relevant qualifications to meet the demands of this post.

Prosper Learning Trust was established in January 2018 with Newcastle Bridges School and Mary Astell Academy. Thomas Bewick School joined the Trust in April 2019, Harry Watts Academy in September 2020 and Gilbert Ward Academy is due to open in September 2023. We are striving to build further collaboration across the academies and grow as a multi-academy trust, whilst continuing to strengthen our relationships with schools outside the MAT for the benefit of our pupils.
