Further Information
This is an exciting time to join the Learning Disability and Autism Team at Newcastle City Council.

We have recently completed a restructure of the Team and this has changed and improved the way we work with service users, their families, carers and our partner agencies. We have moved away from a generic LDA Team to a model involving a smaller Intake Team, Intervention Team and Review Team with dedicated practitioners and Team Managers in each.

The Intake Team focuses on new referrals and short-term assessment and involvement, including preventative and strengths-based work that promotes the independence of service users at the point of referral. The Intervention Team is involved in those situations that require input to address complex needs and more in-depth work to fulfil statutory obligations often involving applications to the Court of Protection.

The Review Team undertakes annual reviews and Streamlined Court of Protection reviews but also responds to situations where unexpected changes are required to existing services.
We are looking to recruit into all three teams and there is an expectation that all staff will have the opportunity to develop skills relevant to each area of work and may support each area if the situation requires it. These post are being advertised to expand the team, please indicate on your form if you have a preferred area of work.

The Senior Practitioners will undertake in-depth and complex casework, to fulfil statutory obligations and meet identified needs. The roles is also to assist the Team Managers to deliver services in accordance with agreed objectives, financial targets, quality and performance standards which will improve the outcomes for individuals and families. The Senior Practitioners will also be required to mentor and support trainee and unprogressed social workers and other social care support staff.

In order to be successful in your application for this post, you must be dynamic and committed to providing an excellent social work service. You will also bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to your work with adults who have a learning disability and/or autism, their families and carers.

You will have experience of working in Adult Social Care and have relevant skills and experience across a range of areas, such as experience of assessment and support planning, hospital discharge planning, Mental Capacity Act assessments, safeguarding adults procedures and of making applications to the Court of Protection work, as well as working with partner agencies as part of a multi-disciplinary team You will also be self-motivating and able to prioritise and complete work to a high standard, often within tight timescales. You should also have knowledge of statutory requirements and relevant legislation. You must hold a relevant Social Work qualification such as the Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or CSS and be registered with Social Work England.
