Further Information
The Service
The Northumberland Skills service delivers employment and skills support to residents across Northumberland delivering employability programmes that include The DWP Work and Health Programme, DWP JETS programme and Restart scheme. All programmes are part of NCC’s wider response to help unemployed residents move back into and towards work. Due to the expansion of the service, we are now recruiting an Employment Adviser and wish to recruit an individual who can demonstrate the ability to build rapport, show empathy, motivate people and help jobseekers to find and sustain employment.

The role
The primary function of an Employment Adviser is to support participants with a coordinated offer of employability support to move them into work. You will do this by offering appropriate Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to address employment barriers, both, immediate and long term. The service is looking to appoint individuals who can demonstrate experience in a similar or transferable role. It is essential that you can demonstrate excellent customer service skills, along with a performance-driven approach to meeting targets. Working across Northumberland you must have the ability to manage our own workload effectively, be able to work autonomously and as part of a team, whilst being responsive and flexible to new demands.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Meeting with jobseekers, identifying any challenges and barriers with finding employment and creating an agreed action plan

Providing your customers with a programme of support that will lead to sustained employment, informed by local labour market needs

Booking jobseekers on to any relevant training or health and wellbeing courses that will help them to move towards work or gain new transferable skills

Supporting jobseekers with CV writing and the job application process

Liaising with employers, recruitment agencies to identify suitable and appropriate employment opportunities

You will support your customers on a face-to-face basis but should have the ability and skills to be able to move away from traditional direct delivery mechanisms to deliver a remote service if required. You will have an eye for detail and the ability to complete accurate and compliant customer paperwork, follow programme guidance, use CRM systems and compete accurate financial records. It is essential that you have a can do attitude and have experience in achieving performance and quality assurance targets.

Employment Advisers work across Northumberland to meet business and contractual needs; therefore you must be able to meet the transport requirements of the role. If you would like an informal discussion about the role and expectations, please call Rachel Druce on 01670 623892 or email rachel.druce@northumberland.gov.uk

We are offering:
-A starting salary of £27,344
-Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (or other pension scheme)
-A wide range of staff benefits including a competitive annual leave provision
-Flexible working arrangements (subject to meeting programme and business need)

Essential requirements:
Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
