South Tyneside Council are excited to announce the newly developed Inclusion Service within the organisation. The SEND Specialist Inclusion Officer – Early Years will play an integral role in delivering the Local Authority’s graduated response, by advising and supporting school staff with Early Years specific teaching and learning strategies for SEND.

We are looking for motivated individuals who want to make a difference to children and young people’s lives and help them access support tailored to their individual learning needs so that they reach their potential.

Your role will involve observing pupils in settings, giving advice on learning styles and appropriate teaching approaches, behaviour management, classroom strategies and whole school policies. You will also support settings with higher need cases, including cases where a pupil may have complex needs, and work with Portage and Pre School Officers to ensure that the best outcomes for pupils are achieved.

Key tasks of your role will include, but are not limited to:
• You will provide an effective monitoring and advice service implementing a wide range of strategies for Early Years children with SEND, managing your own allocated case load and overseeing cases managed by Portage and Pre School Officers.
• Support the inclusion of Early Years children with SEND in mainstream schools, providing support and advice on an individual and whole school basis as well as delivering training to support inclusive practice.
• You will be responsible for your own continuing professional development and for contributing to the professional development of school and local authority staff on matters relating to SEND in the Early Years.
• You will be responsible for supporting the development of inclusion within South Tyneside. You must promote inclusion generally within the Service, Group and Borough.

We welcome applications from individuals with required qualifications for this post and proven experience of teaching children with SEND and assessing the needs of children with SEND in the Early Years and adapting plans and the environment to remove barriers to learning and build upon achievements. The successful applicant will need extensive knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and the ability to play an active role in the allocation and monitoring of Top Up and EHCP funding, providing appropriate challenge where necessary.
