Further Information
We are seeking Inclusion Support Workers to join the School Effectiveness team at Newcastle City Council.

We are creating a new service to support primary schools with pupils who are experiencing social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), to commence September 2023. This service will be made up of specialist teachers and support workers. It will provide outreach support to schools, together with “in-reach” provision for primary pupils who need additional, short-term support.

You will be a key part of this service. You are likely to be the first port of call for schools who need the best possible advice and support for pupils. Alongside specialist teachers, you will help develop the new “in-reach” provision and work within it. You will also visit schools to support pupils and the staff working with them. You will work closely with professionals across a range of services to ensure strong outcomes for pupils experiencing SEMH difficulties.

You will be a qualified, experienced, support assistant with successful experience in supporting pupils with SEMH difficulties across the primary sector. You will have the experience and the credibility to work effectively with colleagues within the Council, with primary school staff and with a range of external organisations. You will have a strong understanding of primary classroom SEMH and inclusion issues.

You will be passionate about achieving the best outcomes for all children. You will be able to provide high quality support for pupils experiencing SEMH difficulties. You will be a confident communicator, able to discuss provision with school staff.

In return, you will receive high quality training to develop your expertise. You will help shape and deliver a new, citywide provision. You will be a valuable part of a supportive and successful team, working in close collaboration with over a hundred schools. Most importantly, you will have an opportunity to make a positive difference across a vibrant, international city.

The closing date for applications is noon on Monday 5 June 2023
Shortlisting will take place on Monday 12 June 2023
Interviews will take place on either Wednesday 21, Thursday 22 or Friday 23 June 2023, lasting no more than one hour.

If you require further information not covered by the supporting documentation, please contact Ian Dawson, Head of School Effectiveness. Please note that successful primary experience is essential for this role. If most or all of your experience is in secondary schools, you will not be suitable for this post.
