An opportunity exists for a suitable individual to work within the Facility Services Division of the Operations and Regulatory Services Directorate, as a Market Inspector based at Newcastle Grainger Market.

About us:

Facility Services and Civic Management work across the city and Gateshead providing building cleaning, caretaking, school meals and welfare catering services.
We have a large team of cleaners, cleaner supervisors, facility supervisors (caretakers), Market Inspectors, Market Operatives, catering assistants, assistant chef’s and chef’s working various hours and shifts in schools and public buildings.

About the post

Typical duties within this post will encompass responsibility for control onsite management and patrolling of Newcastle Markets, Monday to Sunday, including upkeep of all market records.

You should be reliable and have a strong commitment to high standards of service and customer care.

There is a responsibility to organise and supervise staff and resources on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the cleanliness, security and safety of the building is maintained in accordance with appropriate standards and procedures.

You must be motivated, hardworking and able to forge positive relationships with traders, colleagues, and all visitors to the Market. It’s essential you have confidence to enforce the Newcastle Market rules, regulations, lease covenants and their byelaws.

Shift patterns will be discussed during the interview process.

What we are looking for

We are currently looking for reliable and friendly people with a positive attitude to join our team as a Market Inspector.

We are looking for someone who:
• Has good customer service skills
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with problems on site
• Knowledge of cleaning standards with the ability to undertake cleaning tasks
• Capable of regular stooping, bending, lifting, and carrying of equipment, materials, furniture and climb ladders.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work with limited supervision
• Good spoken English with the ability to communicate effectively with the public
• Experience of management/supervision of staff
• Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures and how to apply them in the workplace
• Is self-motivated and able to work to fixed deadlines
