The Governors of St. Columba’s wish to appoint an excellent and experienced Support Assistant to join our committed and friendly team of staff. In this role, you will work as a Support Assistant in Early Years, specifically Nursery.

Responsibilities will include:
• assisting the class teacher in planning and implementing engaging and age-appropriate activities for children
• supporting the social, emotional, and cognitive development of children through interactive play and learning experiences
• providing individual and group support to children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
• fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, and creativity
• observing and record children's progress and communicate effectively with the class teacher and / or parents and carers
• maintaining a stimulating and organised learning environment
• assisting with daily routines, including meal times, personal care, and maintaining a clean and tidy classroom
• supporting children with additional needs, working closely with the SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other professionals, as required

The successful candidate will:
• be qualified at NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
• model and promote the positive values, attitudes and behaviour expected from pupils and contribute to the Catholic ethos of the school
• have experience of working with children of primary school age, preferably in EYFS
• have relevant experience of working with one-to-one or in small groups supporting all areas of the curriculum. Experience of delivering intervention programmes would be desirable
• experience of professional development relevant to EYFS
• demonstrate an understanding of child development and the ability to tailor activities to suit individual needs
• show a willingness and ability to use ICT to support teaching and assessment
• take an active role in the life of the school and help with special occasions and events
• be able to work as a member of a team
• demonstrate a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all children
• be able to form good relationships with pupils and staff and be responsive to the needs of all pupils
• recognise the uniqueness of every child and reflect this in their practice
