Further information

St Mary’s Island and its Lighthouse comprise a unique visitor attraction on the North Tyneside coast. We require two Education Officers to prepare for and lead visits by educational and other organised groups, to lead guided walks and events and deliver rockpool themed birthday parties.

Education officers are responsible for accompanying visits both out onto the rock pools and cliff-top areas and inside the lighthouse, and to also assist in the planning and administration of school visits and events. Education Officers are also expected to assist in the visitor centre gift shop as required.

You will be required to work an average of 20 hours per week. The hours vary weekly and daily because of the tides.

These posts are fixed-term from May to September.

Please be advised that this position will require an enhanced check from the Disclosure & Barring Service.

North Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

In addition, staff and volunteers are expected to familiarise themselves with all relevant policies, procedures and guidance in relation to safeguarding children and safe practice with vulnerable adults. Within North Tyneside, safeguarding is everybody’s business.
