The Primary Behaviour Support Team, part of the Education Support Service is seeking to appoint a teaching assistant to provide support in addressing the needs of pupils who need particular help in overcoming barriers to learning. You will establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model, providing pastoral support to pupils as well as providing advice to assist in their emotional, social and behavioural development. At times you will develop 1-1 mentoring arrangements with pupils as well as providing support for pupils in distress. You will provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning/behaviour/attendance. You will challenge and motivate pupils as well as promoting and reinforcing their self-esteem. You will also provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour, attendance, etc
You will participate in the assessment of children as well as assisting the teacher with the development and implementation of individual education/ behaviour/support/mentoring plans. You will support the transition of pupils across phases.
You will provide support for the teacher by liaising with relevant bodies to gather pupil information as well as supporting pupils' access to learning using appropriate strategies, resources, etc.. You will work with other staff in planning, evaluating and adjusting learning activities as appropriate. You will monitor and evaluate pupils' responses and progress through observation and planned recording as well as provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, to other staff on pupils achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence. You will be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with other staff, contributing to reviews of systems/records as required. You will assist in the development and implementation of appropriate behaviour management strategies as well as establish constructive relationships with parents/carers, supporting home-school and community links. Finally you will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of systems relating to attendance and integration, where appropriate as well a clerical/admin support e.g. dealing with correspondence, compilation/analysis/reporting on attendance, exclusions etc. making phone calls etc. .
You will provide support for the curriculum by Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needs. You will be aware of and appreciate a range of activities, courses, organisations and individuals to provide support for pupils to broaden and enrich their learning and they will determine the need for, prepare and use specialist equipment, plans and resources to support pupils.
You will have an knowledge of the principles of child development and learning processes and barriers to learning and issues relating to pupils with BESD. You will have good numeracy and literacy skills and an NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistant or equivalent. You will also have experience of working with pupils of relevant age and with pupils with additional needs (BESD).
