2 x Full time 37 hours per week Durham. 2 x Full time 37 hours per week Northumberland. 1 x Part time 15 hours per week Gateshead. All are Temporary contracts for 2 years.

Have you previously served in the Armed Forces or have experience of working with the Armed Forces and want to work in Durham, Northumberland or Gateshead to make a difference to the lives of veterans, serving reservists and their families? If so The Gateshead Housing Company in partnership with Gateshead Council, Durham County Council and Northumberland County Council are interested in hearing from you.

Various opportunities have arisen in the Armed Forces Community Outreach Team for the role of Armed Forces Community Outreach Worker. You will be employed by the Gateshead Housing Company as the lead organisation but will be based within Durham in Seaham Customer Access Point or Crook Civic Centre or Northumberland in Blyth or The Gateshead Housing Company, Gateshead.

Working with those leaving the forces, veterans, serving reservists and their families you will provide initial advice and signposting around housing, welfare benefits, employment, health and any other matters that may arise.

It is essential that you can demonstrate that you have knowledge of current issues facing veterans and the Armed Forces Community as well as knowledge of the re-settlement process in order to apply for this post.

Excellent networking and effective communication skills are also essential for this post as you will be working closely with the Council’s partners and external agencies. Furthermore it is vital that you can demonstrate that you have excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to empathise and help others and can demonstrate competence to work on your own initiative.

You must have IT skills, experience of maintaining accurate records and have a full driving license. You will work in Durham, Northumberland or Gateshead but will be employed by The Gateshead Housing Company.

It is desirable that you have knowledge of current welfare benefits, safeguarding policies and procedures, and housing and or social care.
