Sunderland City Council Welfare Rights Service is looking to appoint a Senior Case Worker to work in a busy Welfare Rights Service - based in the Bunnyhill Centre but working from various locations across the city.

The Welfare Rights Service (WRS) provides a specialist service throughout the city in a number of outreach settings and Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service.

The WRS service advises citizens of Sunderland and employees of Sunderland City Council in relation to Welfare Benefits, Debt and Employment Rights. Clients are assisted to challenge decisions made by various bodies and are represented at Social Security Appeals , County Court and Employment Tribunals by the service.

The successful candidate will carry a small case load so will have knowledge skills and experience of delivering welfare rights advice at a specialist level.

The successful candidate will manage a small Macmillan Welfare Benefits team and two Casework Support Officers who manage referrals into the service as well as a range of other key functions.

The successful candidate will also assist the Welfare Rights Service Team Manager with the day to day running of the service and will also provide support and supervision to wider team members as required.

The successful candidate will also support the Team Manager with the production of statistical information to assess the performance of the team and corporate goals the service sets to achieve.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
