The management committee are seeking an experienced and ambitious School Leader to be our new Head of School from April 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Howard House School, part of Howard House Care, is an independent day special school catering for pupils with SEBD. It is co-educational and can accept up to ten pupils aged between 11 and 16 years. Currently the school draws pupils from across the North East and provides an environment where pupils can begin to address the myriad of problems that may confront and, or confuse them. We aim to provide a safe non-threatening environment where issues of abuse, bullying and social exclusion can be addressed.

We are located in a semi-rural location, on the edge of the Bedlington, Northumberland. The School is housed in a mix of historic buildings, which provide extensive facilities to support a developing curriculum. We take pride in providing a lively and caring environment, where everyone is enthusiastic about learning. Staff are dedicated to meeting the individual needs of pupils and are committed to developing their ability to grow into resourceful young adults.

We are looking for a leader with the following qualities:

• Vision and passion to lead the Schools future development - strong interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate.

• Knowledge and understanding of the needs of our pupils.

Essential:

• Qualified Teacher Status.
• Professional Leadership Qualification.
• Successful experience as a Senior Leader.
• Experience of managing teams and holding staff to account.
• Ability to promote family and community engagement.
• Significant teaching experience of pupils with SEBD, especially those with SEMH issues.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of qualities required to move a School through a period of change.
• Evidence of strategic thinking and planning that builds, communicates and carries forward a coherent and shared vision.

Desirable:

• Post-graduate qualification in special education.
• Experience of leading School improvement with measurable outcomes.
• Active involvement in School self-evaluation.
• Ability to implement sound financial systems to ensure maximum educational benefit.
• Experience of working in partnership with other Schools and providers • • Experience of teaching in more than one key stage.
• Experience of teaching pupils with learning disabilities.
