The Governors of Benton Dene School wish to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced teacher to join the well-established and highly regarded multi agency team providing specialist support to nursery aged pupils with identified speech, language and communication needs from across North Tyneside. Dene Communication Centre is part of the Language and Communication Team, a local authority commissioned service.
The role involves working with groups of children with speech, language and communication needs within the nursery classroom based at Benton Dene School for short blocks of intensive teaching and therapy, and also working with individual children in their nursery settings. An essential element of the role involves supporting settings and parents/carers in understanding and meeting the needs of successfully referred pupils to promote progress and positive outcomes.
Particular experience and expertise in working with nursery aged pupils with speech, language and communication needs would be preferred, although consideration will be given to applicants with relevant experience and expertise in the field of language and communication needs across the early year’s age range.
The successful candidate may be required to undertake specialist training to support their role.
The post may also be appropriate as a secondment opportunity. Applicants need to have the approval of their Headteacher or Governing Body before applying.
