An opportunity exists to join an innovative new project delivering employability support to social housing tenants and applicants. This is an exciting new role, where you will use your influence and interpersonal skills to ensure colleagues, partners and residents get involved in the project. As part of the role you will be promoting an ‘employment’ conversation at every stage of the tenant life cycle and coach and motivate residents to embrace work and training opportunities.
We are looking for a dynamic, responsive and customer focused individual who can deliver results for the residents that they work with.
North of Tyne Working Homes is a unique partnership of local authorities and social housing providers working across Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. It is the first major project to deliver the vision of an Inclusive Economy on behalf of the North of Tyne Combined Authority.
The partnership is made up Bernicia Homes, Karbon Homes, Newcastle Futures Ltd., North Tyneside Housing and Employment and Skills, Northern Learning Trust, Northumberland County Council Housing Services, and Your Homes Newcastle.
Working Homes will actively engage with tenants of the partner organisations to deliver a programme of flexible, tailored and intensive support to help them connect with the labour market. A key feature is integration of employment support with tenancy management, using employment coaches and other support workers as part of housing management teams. Support will be tailored, based on accurate assessment of need, including a wide range of learning, skills development, job preparation, and job brokerage delivered across the partnership. This will continue when the tenant moves into employment, to help them stay in work and continue to progress. Services will be delivered in locations that best meet tenant need, including a range of neighbourhood based hubs across the area providing on-site services within wider social community networks.
This innovative partnership approach will enable an effective way to engage with unemployed and economically inactive tenants not engaging with other services, to deliver a more joined-up service to meet a diversity of need. From April 2019, Working Homes will support at least 1,650 residents over three years.
You will need to be able to:
• Provide an intensive case management on a 1-2-1 basis, which supports our social housing tenants and applicants to overcome difficulties and barriers to entering sustained employment and full time learning.
• Generate excitement and ‘buy in’ for the project with partners and colleagues
• Engage with social housing tenants and applicants to identify their needs and strengths in a coherent and comprehensive way undertaking a range of assessment activities and developing written assessments, action plans and referrals where appropriate.
• Act as a ‘Job Coach’ to residents where required to assist them through the recruitment processes and into sustainable employment.
• Visit the new recruits in employment to review their progress and ensure they sustain work
• Support in celebrating the successes from the project by providing examples of those achievements in the form of case studies or profiles.
• Be meticulous in completing paperwork and documenting the resident ‘journey’
• Provide data and monitoring information to the Programme Manager as required by our funders
• Devise and complete appropriate evaluation activities with residents and colleagues to determine the impact of the project and for continuous improvement.
